Cameo, As It Was Meant To Be
Attached you will find a somewhat rare 1955 Chevrolet factory photo.
This is the '55 Cameo Carrier as it was intended to be, a one piece
truck!!!!! ( No separation between the Bed & Cab ) Although if you
look closely at the Passenger side, the Leading Edge Chrome is there,
indicating that there is a separation!!! Another interesting thing
is the two details in this photo, (the two that we can see, there
could be more!!!!) that did not make it on to the Production Model
Cameo. I realize that with the scan it may be hard to pick these
out, but they are there!!! The front fender emblem has a 3124 on
it!! We all know, '57 was the only year to actually have the model
number 3124 on it, yet here it is on a '55!!!!!! The other curiosity
are the Tailgate handles!!! If you look close, you can see that
they are on the outside of the box, instead of on the inside, on
the tailgate itself. These handles were made to swing out to the
side to let the tailgate come down. The reason this idea was scrapped,
was that it was too far to reach to release both handles at the
same time to release the gate!! This is one little piece of Cameo
History that I could not resist sharing with you. I hope you have
enjoyed it!!!
